Day One Hundred Thirty Eight: Lilac (off prompt)
I was outside mowing the lawn this afternoon and my lilac bushes are almost in full bloom. I enjoyed walking next to them and getting to enjoy their potent fragrance. I decided that I wanted to capture these beautiful flowers today so I was curious to find out the meaning behind this flower and learned this: According to Greek mythology there was a beautiful nymph named Syringa which is lilac's botanical name. The god of the forests and fields, Pan, was captivated by her beauty and would chase Syringa through the forest. Syringa was frightened by Pan's attention so she escaped him by turning herself into this aromatic bush - the lilac. This lilac is considered to be the 8th wedding anniversary flower and is the state flower of New Hampshire. Purple lilacs symbolize the first emotions of love and white lilacs represent youthful innocence.

This is the second time I have taken on this challenge. I completed a 365 in 2014 - took 2015 off and decided that this year I wanted to do another challenge. I am part of an amazing group of talented photographers who post an image from an interpretation of a prompt that we receive every day in our e-mail. It's so neat to see how differently a person perceives a simple word or concept and how they translate that into a photograph. I am kicking myself that I didn't do a challenge in 2015 so this is me getting back into doing something I enjoy so very much! Archives
