After working with the Outreach Program for the Clays to End Hunger event in August, I was thrilled to be asked to capture the Outreach's longest running fundraiser - this Fishing to End Hunger event today and tomorrow. I was blown away by the sportsmanship of the contestants, and the sheer number of those that participated. There were a TON of boats! It was a blessing to be a part of and I can't wait for next year. And again, I met the most amazing people! (This excerpt is taken from the FTEH website) The Fishing to End Hunger Contest started in 2013. Bar Harbor Supper Club is the host venue, which is beautifully located on Gull Lake. Fishermen and women enjoy a great registration/dinner event held on Friday night before the tournament. On Saturday, they launch from Bar Harbor to fish the Gull Lake Chain in search of walleyes. The tournament benefits The Outreach Program of the Brainerd Lakes Area. Outreach BLA provides meals to soup kitchens, food shelves, community meal programs, shelters, churches and wherever there is a need for food. No child, regardless of age; should be worried about where their next meal is coming from. Located in Nisswa, Minnesota; their focus is that 80-90% of the meals they package will be distributed in Minnesota. The remaining 10-20% will be used for disaster relief and/or international distribution. The Outreach Program of Brainerd Lakes was founded in 2012. As a humanitarian food aid organization, Outreach BLA packages and distributes 10 different meals. Day one allowed all participants to come register, buy raffle tickets, have a great meal together and get ready for the big tournament tomorrow. Day two started early for these avid fishermen/women and there was such a buzz of excitement when the boats were lining up. I had the pleasure of being in the main boat and got to watch each and every boat make its way out to the lake to find the perfect spot to catch the perfect fish. Good luck everyone! When the boats started coming in it was an extremely busy place with anglers getting their catches to the measuring station, and the Pillager Trap Team was there to help run the fish back to the lake to set them free. And then, of course, the end when winners were announced. CONGRATULATIONS!
