Day One Hundred Forty Two: Eyes | Stare | Catchlight
This is my beautiful baby boy Gavin. He looks deep into your eyes when he speaks to you and I love that about him. Eye contact is so important (in my opinion) because it lets the other person know you are totally engaged in what they may be telling you. Gavin is great at that even at age nine. I am so blessed that he is mine. That he lets me see the world through his eyes. That he lets me get up close and personal to get photos like this. I love this little boy so much!

Day One Hundred Forty One: Timeout | Breather | Pause | Ball
I got a very nice mommy-sort of timeout today. By 9:30 this morning my hours for work were done so I was able to take a few hours to myself while the munchkins were at school to go get my hair done. I am so lucky to have a wonderfully talented cousin who does my hair in exchange for taking photos of her beautiful children. It's a win-win for both of us... I get a nice relaxing time to get pampered and read a book with no interruption and she gets photo albums full of photos of her kids. The arrangement works out perfect! Day One Hundred Forty: One | Single | Unique | On the Third
Do you see him? That little yellow spider!?! He's right there - on the third! I was lucky to spend the day with my boys as they went on their end-of-year field trip to Itasca State Park. Itasca Lake is where the Mississippi River begins. It was a two hour ride there but we got to enjoy seeing the head waters and spending time in the visitor center and also got to hear all about beavers from one of the DNR who did a presentation. My husband and I brought our kids there two summers ago but both of the boys said they didn't remember us going there. EEK! At least I have that trip captured in photos to prove to them that we did make that trip. It makes me giggle. This funky little spider was found by my son's classmate (Matthew) who kept coming up to me and would ask me to take a picture of this thing or that thing. It was fun to see what caught his eye. This was one of his finds. I have never seen this yellow spider before! (OH!! And on our way out of the park, we saw a momma bear and her two cubs. THAT WAS FANTASTIC)!!! Day One Hundred Thirty Nine: Up Close | Delicate | Near
I have a beautiful full flower bed of these little flowers on the side of my house ~ Lily-of-the-Valley. I have never really looked at them from the bottom side and I was pleasantly surprised to see the vibrant color that is hidden under the little bell shaped petals. I looked up a bit of history on these and found out that these are May's flower. These flowers signify happiness, purity, humility, and renewal. The lily-of-the-valley has even been used to describe Jesus Christ or Mary's tears. Other legends state that the lily-of-the-valley materialized from Eve's tears when she was removed from the Garden of Eden. It is common to use these pretty white flowers in wedding bouquets because of their fragrance and they have also been used to tell someone "You complete me." Day One Hundred Thirty Eight: Lilac (off prompt)
I was outside mowing the lawn this afternoon and my lilac bushes are almost in full bloom. I enjoyed walking next to them and getting to enjoy their potent fragrance. I decided that I wanted to capture these beautiful flowers today so I was curious to find out the meaning behind this flower and learned this: According to Greek mythology there was a beautiful nymph named Syringa which is lilac's botanical name. The god of the forests and fields, Pan, was captivated by her beauty and would chase Syringa through the forest. Syringa was frightened by Pan's attention so she escaped him by turning herself into this aromatic bush - the lilac. This lilac is considered to be the 8th wedding anniversary flower and is the state flower of New Hampshire. Purple lilacs symbolize the first emotions of love and white lilacs represent youthful innocence. Day One Hundred Thirty Seven: Snack Attack | Tidbit | Fruit | At Midnight
I am NOT a big drinker at all! Truly! But... When I do feel like a nice cold beverage I'll grab a beer and add some green olives. Everyone who sees me with this drink in hand usually gives me grief and expresses disgust at this combination but after I explain how awesome it is to have a nice cold one with a snack all in one it's a win-win! (And perfect for midnight summer nights by the fire)! Oh, and green olives are a fruit! Day One Hundred Thirty Six: Focus | Focal Point | Spot Light | Pinpoint
My very best friend stayed over last night and we all went to a local shooting range to shoot some guns. Us girls shot to our hearts content but when the boys were busy taking over, my friend and I searched for agates. She has quite the eye for seeing them in a sea of grey and white rocks. This pile is mostly her finds. I maybe found one or two of them. I have always loved looking for agates and so has she. Just another thing we have in common as friends.
Day One Hundred Thirty Four: On A Bench | Angle | Down Low | Lines
It's late in the day... I haven't been out and about much... I am very tired on this Friday evening... What to take my photo of? Eve's bench (couch) that daddy made her under her loft bed! YES! (Daddy made the bed too). Day One Hundred Thirty Three: Distressed | Worn | Old | Texture
No matter how distressed this wagon is or how old it looks, my kids insist on keeping it. I love the character of it ~ each rusty spot. My father-in-law gave this to me from buried deep in his garage when I started looking for different props to use in child photos a few years ago. I found that I don't like using a lot of props for my photos so my kids inherited this old wagon. It has that GOOD QUALITY craftsmanship that will hold for many more years I imagine. All three of my kids can be seen pulling each other on this. My daughter was a happy subject today as long as she got a ride. |

This is the second time I have taken on this challenge. I completed a 365 in 2014 - took 2015 off and decided that this year I wanted to do another challenge. I am part of an amazing group of talented photographers who post an image from an interpretation of a prompt that we receive every day in our e-mail. It's so neat to see how differently a person perceives a simple word or concept and how they translate that into a photograph. I am kicking myself that I didn't do a challenge in 2015 so this is me getting back into doing something I enjoy so very much! Archives
