Day Sixty: Bonus | Perk | Prize | Reward I am speechless today. The bonus that presented itself to me was beyond anything I could have hoped for. I picked up my munchkins from school and my boys said they wouldn't mind watching their little sister for a quick 15 minutes so I could run to the bridge by our house to capture the swans that have been hanging out. That was what I thought was my bonus - just a quick trip for mommy to enjoy working on her hobby. However, when I made it to my destination, I was all ready to start setting up my tripod and getting my larger lens on my camera body, I heard some odd noises in the water. Lo-and-behold, three otters were down there playing to their hearts content! I. WAS. THRILLED!! Needless to say, I left the pile of extras I brought on the side of the hill and just started snapping away! I took over 200 photos in those 15 minutes and loved every second of it! They would look at me here and there but they were busy finding their dinner which they allowed me to watch as well. A fourth otter joined the party and I so wish I didn't have to leave - not only to get back to my babies - but man was it cold! My hands hurt so bad once I got back into the truck. It was more than worth it. I am just bummed that my larger lens isn't good to photograph with when it's not on the tripod. None of my photos turned out as crisp as I thought but by using it to watch these playful creatures - well, I'm glad I had it at least for that much! Talk about being in the right place at the right time! What a bonus!

Day Fifty-Nine: Together | Company | With Each Other | Gather
I couldn't believe my luck with today's prompt - we had a house full this weekend with our great friends of 20+ years. It's always so nice to get together with each other and have our visits. The girls may go off and do a little together (like a trip down to the scrapbooking store to stock up for our upcoming retreat) - the guys go off and do a little together (like go to the sporting store and stock up on their bullets and such) - and then we all gather together for meals - the kids play games - and we just have a great time. This weekend was no exception and it's always a hard thing to say goodbye. We only live about 2 hours away from this wonderful family but getting together is harder and harder as the kids grow. Sports and activities keep us all very busy. We plan these weekends months in advance just to make sure they happen. We always end our time with a group photo. (Yes, there are two sets of twins here - their twins are 2 years and 4 days older than my twins - just another something that makes our friendship even more special). Day Fifty-Eight: Over | Up | Finished
Between my daughter's dance performance and getting back home to our company, I had to think of something to capture quick - then I thought of the bridge by my house. And now the song, "Like a Bridge Over Troubled Water" is playing through my head over and over... It was a bonus that the swans were in the background making all their noises as I watched them for a bit. It was a very peaceful sight at the end of a busy day. Now, back home to help get ready for the delicious meal that my hubby is making on the grill - steaks! :) Day Fifty-Seven: From The Top | Above | Look Down | Bird's Eye View
It is a common thing in my household to look down and see three faces smiling to the brim while their daddy is tickling and blowing raspberries on their bellies. That is what happened today while I was working and daddy and Eve were wrestling. I couldn't resist taking a break to capture some of the giggles that I was hearing in the other room.
Day Fifty-four: Supplies | Items | Materials | Stuff
My co-worker has been sharing some pretty awesome crochet projects that she is working on and it got me thinking of my grandma lately. She passed away in 2011 and not a day goes by that I don't miss her horribly. With all the fun projects that my friend is doing, it made me think that maybe I want to give crocheting another shot. I pulled these supplies out of the box of things that I kept from her and it saddens me that these have been sitting still all these years. Grandma taught me how to crochet when I was roughly 8, 9, or 10 and I made a couple of special things for family members but never continued doing it. Grandma, however, had countless hours spent with these supplies. It was a very rare thing not to see her busy with her needles. She was fast and could have full conversations never looking down - without a worry about what she was doing. If she made a mistake, she just pulled it out and started again. She was a patient teacher and, like I said, I miss her very much. I am glad that I kept these supplies - they may go back in the box for a while but I know they will be there and ready to work when life slows down for me a bit. The blanket in the background is one of the many treasures I have that was made by my Gram - she made this for my husband and I with our wedding colors. This is just a small piece of herself that she left on this earth until I meet her again in heaven. Day Fifty-Three: Rest | Break | Relax
My son Blake has had this little blanket since he was a baby. He loves it. Sometimes I wonder if it's time for mommy and daddy to gently take it away but then I tell myself that it is only a comfort for home. He never brings it to other people's houses - he never sits with it if anyone else is at our home - he only needs it on occasion when he is resting, taking a break and relaxing. One day he will decide to part with it - until then - I enjoy seeing him with his little piece of comfort in our house - seeing him while he is relaxing and laying nicely beside me - this is the part of my life that I never want to forget so I take photos of it... The every day. :) Psalm 4:8 In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, LORD, make me dwell in safety. Day Fifty-Two: Aperture | Bokeh | On The Thirds | Creamy Blur
I have had the extreme privilege of photographing this little guy since he was three months old. I can't get over his amazing blue eyes. He is now two years old and I got to spend the afternoon with him. He is a busy little guy and keeps me on my toes each time I meet with him to capture these happy smiles. We all love him so very much. |
Danette Badger
This is the second time I have taken on this challenge. I completed a 365 in 2014 - took 2015 off and decided that this year I wanted to do another challenge. I am part of an amazing group of talented photographers who post an image from an interpretation of a prompt that we receive every day in our e-mail. It's so neat to see how differently a person perceives a simple word or concept and how they translate that into a photograph. I am kicking myself that I didn't do a challenge in 2015 so this is me getting back into doing something I enjoy so very much! Archives
